- LHR-laser hair removal, what does it mean??
Laser hair removal (LHR) is a procedure which is used to remove body Hair, The Laser or a concentrated beam of Light used is a special medical type, that has a fixed Wavelength and is proven safe for Humans.
- How laser hair removal work?
In this process the LHR- laser hair removal, the light beam which is at a certain Wavelength is absorbed by the hair and passes down to the Hair follicles , Here the light get converted to Heat and damages the Follicles , this prevents the Growth of future Hair .
As our body also repairs the Hair Follicles , most Damaged Follicles are repaired by our body , so multiple Treatments are required to get the desired results , If someone says the Laser Hair treatments is permanent solution , its not Medically correct , The Laser Hair Treatment will delay the hair growth for long time and with repeated sessions can give 70% to 90% permanent results , You may need a Yearly maintenance session . The new hair will be finer, and you will need yearly maintenance session.
As light is absorbed by the hair and travels down to the follicles, dark hair with lighter skin is ideal for this treatment and gives maximum results. This is because Dark hair absorbs light and enough heat is generated to damage the follicles , white hair will not absorb light and will not generate heat , its opposite for skin , we do not want to generate heat on the skin , hence dark skin will absorb the light and there is chance the skin can burn , whereas the lighter skin will not burn.
- Which areas can be treated?
Normally the chin, upper lips, armpits, Hands, Legs and the bikini line can be treated for Laser Hair removal.
- Risk and side effects
With current new developments of the Laser hair removal technology, Risk and side effects are minimum. There may be skin redness, swellings or sometimes skin irritation all this is temporary for few hours.
Special Laser hair removal machines with specific wavelength are used for different skin tone to get maximum results without burning the skin. If some clinics are using cheap Chinese machines , they will have to increase the power for dark skin as much of the light is wasted by skin absorption which means less light reaches the hair follicles and does not give the expected results , increasing the power increases the chance of skin burn . We recommend using the FDA approved machine.
Laser hair removal might darken or lighten the affected skin. These changes might be temporary or permanent. Skin lightening primarily affects those who don’t avoid sun exposure before or after treatment and those who have darker skin.
Rarely, laser hair removal can cause blistering, crusting, scarring or other changes in skin texture.
- Results expected?
After the treatment , the hair do not fall immediately , it will naturally grow and eventually shed, new hair will not grow or you will see substantial delay , It will also depend on what phase the hair is ( Anagen, Telogen and Catagen) , at any given time 85% your body is at Anagen stage this is the growth phase and is ideal for Laser Hair removal. The Telogen stage is when the hair stops growing, 5% your body hair is at this stage and lastly Telogen phase where the hair is shedding.
Hairs do not fall out immediately, but you will shed them over a period of days to weeks. This may look like continued hair growth. The repeated treatments are usually necessary because hair growth and loss naturally occur in a cycle, and laser treatment works best with hair follicles in the new-growth stage.
You might need maintenance laser treatments for long-term hair reduction.
- How much time does it takes??
Generally the full body session will take about 2-3 hrs. , but small session will be 15 min onwards. After procedure
You might notice redness and swelling for the first few hours after laser hair removal.
To reduce any discomfort, apply ice to the treated area. If you have a skin reaction immediately after laser hair removal, the doctor might apply a steroid cream to the affected area.
